As the new year approaches and the High Holidays draw near, preparations begin for these special days of mercy and prayer.

Each year, just a few days before Rosh Hashanah, Jews around the world gather in synagogues at midnight to recite Selichot – a collection of prayers and supplications to G‑d, expressing our request for forgiveness and our prayer to be written and sealed in the Book of Life for a good year.
